FSSAI
FSSAI — Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
For notified laboratories and the food businesses that send them samples.
FSSAI-notified laboratories work to a different rhythm from a general testing lab: regulatory samples arrive with legal paperwork, their identity has to survive a court challenge, and the report is evidence. Food business labs have the opposite pressure — high volume, short shelf lives and a release decision waiting on the result. ErgoLIMS handles both from the same food domain templates.
Who this is for: FSSAI-notified and referral laboratories, and in-house QC labs at food manufacturers.
Regulatory samples and chain of custody
A regulatory sample’s value depends on its identity being unbroken. Registration captures the collection detail and condition on receipt, and every custody transfer afterwards is recorded with the person who took it.
- Condition on receipt recorded at registration, including temperature where it matters
- Custody transfers attributed to named people with timestamps
- Sample retention and disposal governed by policy rather than by habit
- Field sampling with GPS capture and in-situ measurements where samples are drawn on site
Methods and specifications
Food work is specification work. Limits come from the FSS Regulations, from a customer specification, or from the buyer’s own standard, and the answer changes depending on which one applies.
- Method register carrying the standard reference, units, decimal places and LOD/LOQ
- Specification limits per product and per test, with the source of the limit recorded
- Automatic pass / fail evaluation against the applicable specification
- Shelf-life and stability sample handling through scheduled repeat testing
Allergens and contamination control
Allergen management is where food labs get audited hardest, because the consequence of a mistake is a recall.
- Allergen tracking enabled by the FSSAI pack
- Microbiological work — plating, incubation, colony counts — through the microbiology domain templates
- Out-of-specification investigations with a documented Phase 1 and Phase 2
- Complaint handling with the investigation attached to the job it concerns
Reporting and turnaround
Food customers want the certificate today, and the lab wants to know before the customer does when that is not going to happen.
- Per-customer report templates, so a retailer format and a regulator format coexist
- SLA and turnaround monitoring with breach alerts before the deadline, not after
- QR verification on issued certificates, so a buyer can check a certificate is genuine
- Customer portal for sample status and certificate download
Selecting FSSAI at signup turns these on
Selecting FSSAI at signup enables this set. Most notified labs also hold NABL, and the two packs union — the FSSAI pack never switches an ISO 17025 module off.

What ErgoLIMS does not do here
Every vendor page lists what the software handles. These are the boundaries, so you find them now rather than three weeks into an evaluation.
- ErgoLIMS is not an FSSAI submission portal. It does not file with FoSCoS or transmit reports to the regulator.
- Notification as a food testing laboratory is granted to the laboratory by FSSAI. Software is not part of that assessment.
- FSSAI’s prescribed report formats change; report layouts are built in Report Studio by your team or ours, not shipped as a locked regulator template.
- The FSSAI pack is a module set, not a set of regulatory limits. Specification values are configured against your products.

Bring your assessor’s checklist
The most useful demo is the one where you read the audit trail yourself and try to break an authority check. We would rather you found the limits in the demo than after signing.
